The new Caldicot Comprehensive School in Monmoutshire provides an advanced learning environment for pupils as well as the local community.

The innovative bow-tie shaped school designed by BDP architects concentrated on creating comfortable environments which both support learning and minimise the estate's long-term running costs. Large, naturally lit spaces are inteneded to enhance pupil wellbeing while reducing energy consumption. Temperature optimisation was a key consideration with materials specified to minimise heat loss and support the school's self-cooling technology.

The drylining specification played akey role in meeting these aims.  Siniat collaborated closely with BDP, Interserve and Subcontractor Richard Kemble Contracts to provide tste-of-the-art products to delivera low carbon, durable teaching environment with excellent acoustics to ehmnce learning.

Installation Phase

Siniat’s Weather Defence external sheathing board was specified for its outstanding airtightness and dimensional stability. The product’s hydrophobic core also provides moisture protection and up to 120 minutes of fire resistance. Inside the school, pupils and visitors are greeted by an impressive three-storey atrium designed to capitalise on natural light and ventilation. Durability was a critical element of the design. Fire and impact resistant Megadeco was double layered in busy corridors to produce a safe and hardwearing environment. Where extra sturdiness was required, such as in the sports hall, reinforced LaDura was fitted to provide exceptional impact resistance and minimise ongoing maintenance.

450m² ceiling

To prevent unwanted sound reverberation, Pregybel was used to form an impressive 450m² ceiling for the foyer.

Cutting out noise up to 49 RwdB.

To prevent sound transmission between a range of departments Siniat dB board was used with a specialist acoustic stud and intumescent acoustic sealant.
