INNOVATION and R&D

With an overarching aim to be the leading expert in dry construction, Etex Building Performance invests more than €40m annually in R&D in its Centre for Excellence in Dry Construction in Avignon. Here we undertake laboratory and real life tests for fire, acoustics, thermo efficiency, impact, moisture, weathering and other relevant performance criteria. This centre is also where we develop new products, aimed at solving issues in key areas such as acoustics, building envelope and offsite construction.

LATEST PRODUCT INNOVATION:       2ND GENERATION WEATHER DEFENCE

Used across thousands of projects since its launch in 2013 and specified by 45% of the AJ100, we listened to customer feedback and created a new and improved version in 2017 with enhancements including:

  • A 12 month exposure warranty
  • An additional BBA certificate (one for the product as one for the system)
  • A smooth facer which improves manual handling

improving jobsite productivity

Jobsite productivity is a major issue in the construction industry. According to research from the OECD, productivity in the European construction industry has remained flat for 30 years.

We recently commissioned a study with the Building Research Establishment (BRE) to understand where time is lost installing drywall systems. The results showed that 19% of time on site was ‘waste’ and only 58% was spent building.

We are focusing our efforts on creating solutions which are faster and easier to install, such as LaDura, Megadeco and Weather Defence.

Acoustic innovation

A world first - GTEC Resilient Acoustic Stud (RAS) is an innovative acoustic stud aimed at helping achieve acoustic performances on site, whilst reducing risk, build time and partition footprint.

RAS comprises two steel profile sections held together by an acoustic tape which prevents airborne and impact sound from passing through separating wall.

RAS Benefits include:

  • Meeting performance requirements for Part E Rooms for Residential Purposes and Part E Change of use.

  • A 17mm thinner partition, by consolidating the resilient bar into the  unique stud design.

  • Up to 50% quicker installation time than the traditional Resilient Bar System method.

THRUWALL SOLUTIONS FOR THE EXTERNAL ENVELOPE

Under our new Etex Building Performance organisation, we have combined our expertise in internal drylining, external sheathing, steel framed systems and passive fire protection to produce a new solution for the external envelope. It is tested and warrantied.

It is a non-loadbearing infill system for the building envelope composed of:

OFFSITE INNOVATIONS

SINIAT AND PROMAT FINALISTS FOR PRODUCT INNOVATION AT THE 2016 OFFSITE AWARDS

Offsite Awards Finalists 2016

The innovation is in response to the increased number of buildings exceeding 30 metres in height.  Where once it was standard practice to use plasterboard that could help to protect a building structure and fabric for 60 to 90 minutes Read more.....
